What’s Change Got to Do With Yoga?

20 October 2015 by Yasmin Zaman Leave a Comment

Yogini Ally Nguyen (Asian/American female, late twenties) performs yoga (Revolved Triangle Pose) amid autumn aspen trees, Little Cottonwood Canyon, Salt Lake City, Utah USA.This autumn, if we take our cue from nature we see that change is necessary and can also be beautiful. However, as humans, we like to be in control and resist the present moment creating tension in the body and, of course, the mind.

Yoga, a type of moving meditation, offers a wider perspective and a way of being in the moment, as it’s happening, so we learn to flow with the changes – prepare ourselves with the breath, limber up, begin to flow with the heating energy of Sun Salutations, set up for asana/postures, hold and breathe postures, ease out of postures before surrendering the body back to the mat for a final letting go in deep relaxation so the mind is clearer, with less bodily tension, so that we can begin the practise of sitting meditation.

It’s a practise for everyone, no matter how old, how out of shape, how low, happy or numb you feel, or how long you’ve lapsed since last course. You just turn up, move to your own ability and let the wisdom of the movement support you so you enjoy yourself, feel good and, maybe, smile!
Check out the classes page to see this autumn’s harvest of yoga and mindful movement sessions.
